Milk Glass

Description

At first I just wanted to render a simple milk glass.
However, I came to the idea to play around a bit with Maya's nParticles to create some flowing milk.

The results were pretty inaccurate and slow. Maya couldn't handle the amout of liquid particles I've needed.

So RealFlow was the better choice. I was able to create a fluid simulation with 130.000 particles, the maxium I could get out of RF. Memory usage of RF was only some ticks below 4 GB and RF, for whatever reason, crashes above 4 GB memory usage.

That's also the main reason why the milk still looks a bit unnatural (e.g. holes within the stream).

However, I'm pretty satisfied with my final solution.

For the milk material I've used a mia_material_x shader with a misss_fast_shader_x connected to the additional_color slot. This way I get a good BRDF (fresnel reflection) on the milk without using a lot different shaders attached to the miss_... shader.

I didn't count the render time. I've rendered all frames with batch render not using all cores/threads.

I've also added some motion blur and stuff in Digital Fusion, which wasn't pretty easy to do because of the glass in front of the flowing milk. Instead I just rendered an extra motion vector pass of just the milk with an effect mask to leave some areas untouched by motion blur.
